Ask Amy: Roomies trespass and are caught on camera

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 14:22:41 GMT

Dear Amy: I am a college student living with college-aged roommates in a four-bedroom, one-bathroom house. We each have our own room and we share common living spaces.A few months ago, I started noticing my locked bedroom door mysteriously unlocked and wide open, exposing my belongings to the rest of the house.I promptly put up a security camera in my room.Sure enough, one day I got a notification of a person breaking into my room.I saved the video and anxiously pondered ideas about what I should do.I decided to do nothing and see if it would happen again.Again, I received a notification that a person was in my room. This time all of my roommates were in my bedroom — scoping it out (it’s a tiny room). One of the roommates spotted the camera and immediately exited the room. On the tape I heard him state to the others that they should say that the reason for forced entry was to shut the open window.I am furious and conflicted on what I should do.Related ArticlesAsk Amy | ...

The small east European nation of Moldova summoned the Russian ambassador on Wednesday (19 April) to declare a member of embassy staff persona non grata, prompting Moscow to complain.Government press secretary Daniel Voda told reporters the decision was connected to the actions of embassy staff towards Moldovan border guards who denied entry to a regional Russian politician at Chisinau airport this week.Moldova, which applied to join the European Union last year alongside its neighbour Ukraine, has repeatedly accused Russia of trying to destabilise the country, something Moscow denies.Moldova told Russian politicians not to meddle in its internal affairs on Monday after barring Rustam Minnikhanov, governor of Russia's Tatarstan region. Police said he aimed to bolster support for a pro-Russian candidate standing in a regional election.Russian ambassador Oleg Vasnetsov said he had not received answers to why the embassy employee was being kicked out and why Minnikhanov had been barred...

NFL Draft Guide: As usual, QBs are coveted in first round

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 14:22:41 GMT

The NFL never really stops, so its offseason continues with the draft starting Thursday night. The Carolina Panthers have the No. 1 overall pick and, as usual, a lot of the hype surrounds the quarterbacks. Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Kentucky’s Will Levis and Florida’s Anthony Richardson are among the coveted prospects. The other top athletes include edge rushers such as Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr. and Texas Tech’s Tyree Wilson. Cornerbacks — including Oregon’s Christian Gonzalez and Illinois’ Devon Witherspoon — are also likely top 10 selections.Among the draft’s most polarizing prospects is Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter. On talent alone, he might warrant a No. 1 selection. But Carter pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors (reckless driving and racing) and was sentenced to a year of probation and community service in March on charges related to an automobile accident that killed a Georgia teammate and ...

Kershaw reaches 200 wins, other milestones possible

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 14:22:41 GMT

Clayton Kershaw reached 200 victories this past week — a reminder of both the left-hander’s excellence and the near-impossibility of a pitcher reaching 300 wins nowadays. The active leader in victories is Justin Verlander with 244, and he’s 40 years old. Only four active pitchers even have 200 wins — Verlander, Zack Greinke (223), Max Scherzer (203) and Kershaw, who made it to 201 by the end of the week. Adam Wainwright is at 195 and could join that group, but he hasn’t pitched yet this year because of a groin injury. The 35-year-old Kershaw is pitching on a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but if he keeps going into 2024, he could reach 3,000 strikeouts. He’s 161 shy of that mark. And if 300 wins is increasingly out of the question, given current patterns of starting pitcher workloads, 300 quality starts is still a possibility for today’s stars. Verlander (327) and Greinke (317) have already surpassed that mark amid little fanfare. Kershaw ...
